It’s like Ubuntu is initializing the device in a way which bothers Windows and the only way to reinitialize the device in order to work properly under Windows is to shutdown the laptop and start it again from the top and boot directly to Windows without booting first to Ubuntu. I can’t guarantee it will work for you with Win8. It seemed to load the same old driver.
